I'm Still Here!

Autumn is well under way at our Northwestern NJ home as you can see here. We awoke this morning to a crisp 37*! Such a beautiful day.

Well, let's see... Autumn arrived on a Monday and I threw my back out on Wednesday. And that triggered the worst sciatic nerve flareup I've ever had and the worst pain I've experienced in a decade. This past Wednesday, a week to the day this all started, I went to my Rheumologist and was treated to two shots, one in my spine and the other in my upper right... Glute. Heh, hem. He increased the anti inflammatory and nerve meds I'm already on for at least the next two weeks. In two days I go for a MRI to see exactly what's what because it's not getting significantly better. On a pain scale of 1 to 10, I started at 1,000 and I've been hovering at 990-995 since the day after this all started.

I have to alternate between lying down and taking short walks because sitting only aggravates the nerve something awful. Of course I can't avoid sitting altogether, but I'm trying my best because it really does make getting up and then around a lot worse.

For the first time in a few years I've had to use a cane.

Actually, this is a new cane. I had to 'upgrade' to one with a padded handle because using my old one (which was my father-in-law's) was hurting my palms too much and flaring the arthritis in my hands.

Once a day or two had passed, I got very angry and upset. Autumn is my favorite time of year and the time of year when I am usually most active! I don't want to be in this kind of pain, high off the meds trying to calm the nerve and even more physically limited than I am normally! Not now! Summer? Sure! Winter? Sure? Even  Spring! But now, in Autumn and October? UGH!!!

Deep breaths...

I wasn't going to let this stop me from going with the Marine (Hubbs) yesterday. I saw one of the updated foliage maps recently and it indicated that we are nearly at peak with our foliage in our little corner of Northwestern NJ and I don't want to miss it! Seems we're a bit ahead of schedule with foliage overall this year. I did alright with the ride up, though I'm sure today's ride back down to the shore won't be as pleasant.

This view alone made it worth it to me:

I believe I gasped when I saw this mountain view. Even felt the beginning of tears. Oh my heart! My dear October, how I love thee let me count the ways! Since I was a little girl, Autumn has filled my soul with awe consuming joy and I cannot tell you why, it just does.

I have much more to write and many more photos to share (of course) so once we're no longer en route and I'm settled again, there will be more posts to come!

Stay tuned friends! I hope all is well in your necks of the woods.

Oh my God that picture of the trees is just gorgeous!!!! I am so sorry you've been in such awful pain lately. At the same time, I am incredibly impressed and motivated by your determination to not let it stop you!
Thank you for your kind words on all counts! Truly appreciated :-)

An Enchanted Garden Party

Welcome to my post! To visit other participants, please head over to the Practical Magic Blog Party 2010 blog. I must say that while I think Practical Magic the movie is adorable, I think the novel is incredible. And that is where I gleaned my inspiration from for these festivities. Gardens are mysterious, magical and enchanting, don't you think? Now follow me out into the garden, I have everything all ready for you, including music! (Turn your volume on). *Update: Music has reverted to my regular Fall soundtrack, 9/28/2010* For all of you non Practical Magic Blog Party folks, head on over to NJ Through My Eyes where I've posted 2 new slide-shows today; one is a preview of a new project I'm working on!

A Walk Through The (Dis)Enchanted Forrest (Halloween Party Post)

Welcome & thank you for visiting my post! For more Halloween fun today & throughout the weekend, visit A Fanciful Twist . For more Halloween & Autumn Fun, check out my "Autumn Tuesday" & "Halloween Thursday" posts by clicking on their labels in the left hand column. ~Happy Halloween & Pumpkin Blessings! *Update for those friends wondering, I put this together prior to surgery yesterday to make sure I would be able to post it for today! (Though it didn't post at 12:01am like it was supposed to). Anyhoo, I'm home and resting (uncomfortably). Surgery went well, my kidney tube and stone are gone! I have an internal stent on the left hand side but I'm okay with that because it comes out in the doctor's office in 2-3 weeks (no back to the hospital) and especially because it meant they could take that nephrostomy tube out! (The last nearly 2 weeks of that 15 weeks was rough with that thing, my body was simultaneously trying to heal aroun...

2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party 2011 is Here! *Updated*

It's time for the 2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party created & hosted by the wonderful Anna of Frosted Petunias ! My sincerest apologies for getting this up rather late! The adventure that is post Hurricane Irene cleanup & repairs has been taking up too much time recently. (sigh) Things are a mess; I only started decorating for Autumn yesterday and I'm missing Halloween decorations! Luckily my broom is always safe and sound by the front door so at least I don't have to wonder where it is. (Not that it hasn't been known to scamper off now and again - naughty broom). I was afraid, quite honestly, that I wouldn't even get a post up sometime today! I kept hitting dead ends with every other one I tried. But, this morning I sat here at the computer and it flowed. Thankfully! I would have been so disappointed if I'd missed this, it was such fun last year! As some may remember from last years party, while I like the movie, (and love that house!), I love the...
