Friday Favorites: Bargains

I love a good bargain, after all, who doesn't?! Being on a fixed budget though, I need to pinch pennies as much as I/we can as often as possible. I wanted to share a few with you, picked up today as a matter of fact, for this Friday Favorites! I didn't buy any Halloween items during yesterday's outing.  This display made me happy so I had to share! I've been looking for a new iced tea pitcher; this one came with the glasses, only $6 for the set! (Oops! Forgot to mark pic!) I loved Katherine's 1st novel, The Physick Book Of Deliverance Dane; paid only $3 for her newest! Yes, I still use a regular ole timer in the kitchen & have been needing a new one; only $1 for this cutie! No idea what I would do with this (metal) box but fell in love with it... Right now it's sitting at the foot of the mantle; $13. I love cute & pretty blank notecards but not the prices for them usually & while these were a little more than the $1.50 Paul

On The River

At sunset, this area of the Navesink is just about the most peaceful place I know. Only a few miles from where I grew up, but worlds apart it seems. Wednesday hadn't been the best of days (I'd had yet another awful migraine) and I was glad to see such a beautiful end to the day. Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®

Sunflowers on Sunday Scenes

I have many photos of this 15 acre field of Sunflowers to share with you, but I just couldn't wait, so here is a preview of what's to come!  This is one of my favorite things and I love finding these sunflower fields every August! Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®

The Best Of Intentions & Bon Appétit!

Something wicked this way comes. Rain & hail. All hell breaking lose. Back yard flooding, filling the patio but didn't get into the kitchen thankfully. Here we go again folks! So today was not only Wordless Wednesday but Garden Blogger's Bloom Day and Julia Child's 100th Birthday! I had a lovely slideshow of garden photos planned, all taken early this morning, for a "When Wordless Wednesday & Garden Bloggers Bloom Day Collide!" post and I was going to do a little something in honor of Julia today as well. Suddenly, the arthritis flared in my hands & arms and it was all I could do not to let my hands cramp up into fists & cry. That's when I noticed the clouds gathering, the sky turning darker. By late morning I could hear thunder off in the distance & see that odd dark gray out towards the direction of NY (Long Island). And so the computer stayed off. I did get to watch The Chew's tribute to Julia on ABC7 withou

Friday Favorites: Pink

"I like pink. Pink is my signature color." -Shelby, Steel Magnolia's. I love pink! (Not so shocking for those of you who know me well, I know).  Not a particular shade, pretty much all shades.  In the garden, in the home, in my clothes & accessories.  It's one of those colors that makes me Happy .  Oh sure, I love other colors too (like many shades of orange, purple and barn red), but pink is at the top of my list.   Today, here are some of my favorite shades of pink, from pale to bordering on red, from my garden. (Taken this morning before the storms arrived). 'Autumn Joy' Sedum 'Queen Elizabeth' Grandiflora rose 'Strawberries & Cream' Hydrangea 'Rosa Radrazz' Knock Out rose What is your favorite color? A Local "Icon"

Otherwise known as "the creepy clown". It's been here for as long as I can remember (and longer than that!).  Originally a Food Circus supermarket mascot, this one is maintained by the liquor store chain that has long had the property (or so I've heard) and it was recently re-painted. I rather like him now with his vibrant colors! Hubbs said he read somewhere in the local paper that it's rumored to be haunted. Why the creepy clown would be haunted is beyond us!  (Just noticed I cut off the top of his hat!) Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®

An Early Morning Walk in the Garden & Blogging Reflections

Every morning before Hubbs leaves for work, he comes back into our room to give me a kiss. (Every body altogether now, "Awww!")  Usually I go back to sleep after he leaves (since it's around 6am) and get up about 7:45am. But after a fitful & uncomfy nights sleep last night, I was wide awake. Oh, I tried to go back to sleep, but decided to get up instead of laying there frustrated that I couldn't sleep. Then I remembered the pink Morning Glories blooming on the arbor around the tall gate in the yard that I shared with you here .  (We have two yard gates, one tall, the other short).  I dressed quickly (quickly for me that is!) grabbed my camera's and went into our spare room to peak through the blinds at the top of the arbor. Sure enough I spied two small clusters of pink! So out into the beautiful, foggy, albeit it more than sticky, morning I went. Thankfully the rising sun was having a hard time burning through the dense fog, keeping the heat at bay, allow

Because This Makes Me Happy

I wanted to share with you the first Morning Glory bloom of 2012, taken in my garden this morning and very much a pleasant surprise! Here in our neck of the coast, in my humble little garden, Morning Glories mean Autumn is coming and seeing this lone pink bloom had me giddy with excitement! (Happy dance in the garden! Well, in the kitchen actually).  It's a bit early for the vines to start blooming here, but then again, everything started off blooming two months early this year so I shouldn't be surprised. It does make me wonder if I'll have any blooming on either arbor in time for October & with the Halloween decorations I put up outside (I just love how that looks!), but for now, I can't wait to see if there are more blooms tomorrow! What 'simple' pleasure makes Your heart sing with joy? I'd love for you to share with me below! Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®
