Sunday Scenes - Exploring

I love when I'm able to 'play tourist' right here at home! There's nothing better than getting better acquainted with an area you know and love so well. Funny thing is, at the end of our journey this morning, we realized we had been to this specific area of the Hook before, but several years ago and well before the hurricanes of 2011 & 2012, so we didn't recognize it until we were about finished with our walk. But, Hubbs and I didn't mind - we both love this place and from this section of the beach we could see an area we're pretty certain we definitely haven't explored before, so there are more adventures to be had!

Look Around You...

The sky has a lot to say, do you look up and listen?

Friday Favorites

I love the variety and character of the homes in our community! Here are some from my recent walk.

Through My Eyes 360 - Thursday

Weekend Scenes - Sunday Morning

Sunday morning was chilly here on the coast because of the wind, but sunny and I didn't want to come back home right after breakfast. I just wanted to be out and about for a bit, but not in the errands or shopping way. Hubbs indulged me! We live minutes from two lighthouses and stopped at this one on our way home.

When You're Thrown A Curveball...

That hangs in the air, the best thing you can do is live your life until you see where it lands and then go from there. At least that's what I've been telling myself since last Sunday afternoon after a phone call from Obgyn. Not that you ever expect to hear them, but three words you just don't expect to hear on a quiet Sunday while making an early lunch with your husband are: Abnormal pap and biopsies.  My doctor says my chances for cervical cancer are extremely low, abnormal paps are unfortunately more frequent as a woman gets older and he doesn't want me to worry. But, I've never had one come back like this (possibly indicating cervical cancer), and with my already compromised immune system, and worrying being a natural part of who I am... It's been a long week!  Of course there are random moments of worry and panic and tears (aka what I like to call 'come to Jesus meetings') but I know how sick I can make myself over something and that won...

Winter: A Living With Disease, The Joy Oh Home and A Writers Journal post

Hello friends! I can hardly believe it's been a little over two weeks since my last post. Where does the time go anymore? Mother Nature has decided to give is a true Northeast Winter this season, our first (mostly) normal Winter in about a decade. The Midwest and even the South are getting slammed with harsh extremes though and my thoughts & prayers are with them. As I write this, a trio of state plows are rumbling by, rattling the windows & vibrating the floor, clearing away & salting last nights dusting. (Our section of the road is part of a residential U-turn for the state highway we're just off of. Local plows don't touch this area). I don't mind the (bitter, frigid) cold outside, but it's been too chilly for me indoors until the day before yesterday. Whatever adjustment Hubbs made to the boilers is working, yay! With this our first cold & snowy Winter in so long, seeing the beauty of it has made my heart sing with joy! Hubbs has been takin...

The Weather Takes A Break!

As you can see, I'm not the only resident here at The Portable Homestead who is enjoying having the windows open today! Miss Boo spent the entire morning perched in this spot watching birds and butterflies. The temperatures began to fall, albeit it slightly on Sunday, ending heat wave number 4 of the year, and now the humidity is finally following suit. Though still a bit muggy now, I for one am so thankful for a break from the oppressive humidity & heat! I thought what was left of my sanity would break first. Having bronchitis and a sinus infection (day 11 & counting) as well as hibernating indoors (because of the weather, infections & my body's extreme dislike of hot/humid weather) hasn't helped my spirits (or cabin fever) any. I think the reason why Summer cooties (colds, sinus infections, bronchitis & the like) seem to go on and on is that, despite air conditioning, it's just too hot for soups, hot teas with honey - many of the nourishing ...

Beginnings Start With Endings: Part 2

As many of you know, I have a second blog, a photography blog, which I originally began as New Jersey Through My Eyes in 2010.  I started off with gusto, but lost steam and reached an impasse with the blog quite some time ago.  But, (there's always a but), I haven't wanted to let the blog go. I recently started toying around with the idea of changing the name, hoping it would re-inspire me and open up my possibilities for the blog.  This morning, while journaling after breakfast, I started jotting down different possibilities for the new name keeping "Through My Eyes" part of it to tie the original focus of the blog with the new. Through My Eyes From My Camera ? Through My Eyes From My Heart ? Through My Camera ? From My Camera ? **Through My Eyes 360** As soon as I looked at Through My Eyes 360 on my journal page, I had a Charlie Brown "That's It!" moment and immediately I left the table for the computer! NJTME is now Through My Eyes 360...
