Out Of My Comfort Zone

(Please excuse the spazzy spacing in this post! I've tried correcting it & haven't been able to).

A week ago today, I set out on foot in the beautiful Autumn-like morning weather and headed downtown for a pottery class that I signed up for through the Library.   Yes, a pottery class!  Something I've heard people do, something I've never done before but thought, "Why not?!"

While I was getting ready to leave, I realized I was actually nervous (really nervous) and laughed out loud at myself. "Come on! It's a pottery class, what are you nervous about?!"  But, I don't do things like this.  Do I?  A pottery class?  Me?  What's the point?  (Aside from supporting a newly revamped Library/Friends Of The Library program).  I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb amongst my bookclub gals.  Most have children.  I do not.  Most are healthy.  I am not.  Most are of better financial means...  Ack.

Seriously, only I can over think a multitude of nonsense getting ready for a pottery class!

There was nothing to be nervous about (as usual) and I had a great time!  Lots of laughter & chatter.

After a 'field trip' for foliage, etc & after we got our clay ready, we set to pressing into the clay.

Chatting about our creations & all manner of things.

Getting ready to prepare our next pieces of clay, the 2 smaller pieces.

Creating my 'large' piece.

My 3 pieces, left to right (accidentally cropped off part of the 3rd); can't wait to see them after firing/glazing!

Cleaning up after painting parts of our creations.

Everyone's pieces were left to set, then they will be fired & glazed for us, ready for pickup next week!

After we finished up, a friend & I went to the diner for lunch and had a good, long over due chat.  I went down to my favorite spot to sit a while at the harbor beach.  (Photos to come!)  Such a peaceful spot.  Wind, ocean waves coming in, seagulls.  (happy sigh)

It turned into such a great day!  One I will be thankful for for many moons to come, especially after such a rough August.  Each of my pottery creations will be a lovely reminder of this good day, which will help me through the bad.

What have you done lately that was out of your comfort zone?

What fun!! And good for you for moving out of your comfort zone.

I really want to take a writing class but haven't found one I think I can manage physically yet. Now, with my son a bit healthier and off to college, I have a lot more freedom, so maybe I will finally get to it this year!

BTW, I love the way your class used natural elements - I bet the finished products will be gorgeous!

Thanks Sue :o) I'm glad we did too, just wish some were a little more careful in picking their natural elements (from the plants) lol. Had I known I would've brought things from my garden but ended up with oak leaves & acorns and dogwood leaves & berries like I have here at home anyhow.

I hope you get to do that writing class!!! I miss taking classes.

I'm glad you had a good time, Jo! :) I can't wait to see your pictures of the final products.
Hi Jo! I'm so happy to be back blogging to see what you're up to! I agree about the comfort zone thing. I feel like i have two personalities sometimes and I can't seem to make them mesh. Beautiful work you've done, I want to try pottery so badly!

An Enchanted Garden Party

Welcome to my post! To visit other participants, please head over to the Practical Magic Blog Party 2010 blog. I must say that while I think Practical Magic the movie is adorable, I think the novel is incredible. And that is where I gleaned my inspiration from for these festivities. Gardens are mysterious, magical and enchanting, don't you think? Now follow me out into the garden, I have everything all ready for you, including music! (Turn your volume on). *Update: Music has reverted to my regular Fall soundtrack, 9/28/2010* For all of you non Practical Magic Blog Party folks, head on over to NJ Through My Eyes where I've posted 2 new slide-shows today; one is a preview of a new project I'm working on!

Welcome & thank you for visiting my post! For more Halloween fun today & throughout the weekend, visit A Fanciful Twist . (Though it didn't post at 12:01am like it was supposed to). Anyhoo, I'm home and resting (uncomfortably). Surgery went well, my kidney tube and stone are gone! I have an internal stent on the left hand side but I'm okay with that because it comes out in the doctor's office in 2-3 weeks (no back to the hospital) and especially because it meant they could take that nephrostomy tube out! (The last nearly 2 weeks of that 15 weeks was rough with that thing, my body was simultaneously trying to heal aroun...

2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party 2011 is Here! *Updated*

It's time for the 2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party created & hosted by the wonderful Anna of Frosted Petunias ! My sincerest apologies for getting this up rather late! The adventure that is post Hurricane Irene cleanup & repairs has been taking up too much time recently. (sigh) Things are a mess; I only started decorating for Autumn yesterday and I'm missing Halloween decorations! Luckily my broom is always safe and sound by the front door so at least I don't have to wonder where it is. (Not that it hasn't been known to scamper off now and again - naughty broom). I was afraid, quite honestly, that I wouldn't even get a post up sometime today! I kept hitting dead ends with every other one I tried. But, this morning I sat here at the computer and it flowed. Thankfully! I would have been so disappointed if I'd missed this, it was such fun last year! As some may remember from last years party, while I like the movie, (and love that house!), I love the...
