Big Stone Gap (Big Stone Gap, Book 1)Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was the first selection of 2012 for evening bookclub and a welcome change of pace from our many recent serious reads. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! I loved the opening paragraph and once I was into the novel, I didn't want to put it down. I'd definitely like to read the others in this series which is unusual for me. Different than most contemporary Southern reads I've read. Leaning towards the chick-lit side but not so much that it turned me off. A cute, easy read despite a few sad parts. Her descriptive writing is vivid without being fluffy or wordy and she paints a beautiful picture of the mountains in West VA and gives a great sense of place. Just the change of pace I may have needed to give my reading rut the boot once and for all!

I still have not read any of Trigiani's novels but really do need to pick one up and jump in. They seem to be universally loved!
That's what I've heard! I was surprised that I enjoyed it so much. We'll see if I enjoy the next in the series!

I ADORE Adriana Trigiani! When I was still a TV news producer, I booked her as a guest on my show. She was so, so kind. I've kept in contact with her over the years... I've gone to see her when she comes to our local bookstore for readings. She's very active on Facebook, and my book club did an author chat with her a few years ago. She is just funny and down to earth. Even if she didn't really remember me, she faked it well enough for me to feel like we're friends! Her books are so great!

Many a restless Spirit wander here on days like this. One can never be too sure if the fog & mist are just as they seem. Inside, it is warm yet equally frightful! Creepy crawlies have gotten into the food & drink, I so hope you don't mind! What with all of the party hopping we're doing, I didn't want you to bust a gut, so I've laid out some Pumpkin Cook...

(Though it didn't post at 12:01am like it was supposed to). Anyhoo, I'm home and resting (uncomfortably). Surgery went well, my kidney tube and stone are gone! I have an internal stent on the left hand side but I'm okay with that because it comes out in the doctor's office in 2-3 weeks (no back to the hospital) and especially because it meant they could take that nephrostomy tube out! (The last nearly 2 weeks of that 15 weeks was rough with that thing, my body was simultaneously trying to heal aroun...
