Holy Thursday

When this day arrives, I cannot help but think of my Nana. When I was young, still in grammar school, I remember going with her to an (early) evening Holy Thursday Mass. It must have been fairly warm as I remember wearing a blue windbreaker I had back then. The Mass was unlike any Mass I had been to at that point or since. No organ with Mr. Fitzpatrick, our school's music teacher, leading the Hymns, but a man with an acoustic guitar, the father of a classmate. There was something less forced, less routine and more uplifting & peaceful about that Mass. The Church was bright, the colors in its' murals more brilliant than they appeared during the day. Those there were there because they wanted to be (I wasn't sure I wanted to be there at first but was soon glad I went). It started and ended with the few who attended praying the Rosary aloud. It was beautiful. I don't recall going to a Holy Thursday Mass prior to or after that one with my Nana and I can't recall why she wanted to take me that year. But I am Blessed that she did.

What a very sweet memory. My Italian great grandmother who didn't speak much English would take me to the novenas when I was a little girl. The mass was only 1/2 hour and in Italian, but I loved the smell of incense and being with her on the way to and from.

I also loved that you called in grammar school. Hardly anyone refers to it by grammar school anymore and I think it sounds so quaint and charming when someone does.
Thank you Brenda! My school was called St. James Grammar School (it still is I believe). I didn't go to public school until high school so I didn't have that whole primary/middle school thing growing up. I wouldn't know how else to refer to that time of school in my life, lol!

What a lovely memory to have of you and your Nana.
Thank you Lizzi! May 16th will be 10 years since she passed and I miss her more & more every day.

What a beautiful memory. It shows how even if we're dragged kicking and screaming to church it can still affect us and become a fond memory. I'm so glad you went with her. I don't think I've ever been to a Holy Thursday Mass before. Of course I am not Catholic, but when I was about 5 I always envisioned myself as a nun.
I think Catholic churches are gorgeous and have such a beautiful sereneness about them.

An Enchanted Garden Party

Welcome to my post! To visit other participants, please head over to the Practical Magic Blog Party 2010 blog. I must say that while I think Practical Magic the movie is adorable, I think the novel is incredible. And that is where I gleaned my inspiration from for these festivities. Gardens are mysterious, magical and enchanting, don't you think? Now follow me out into the garden, I have everything all ready for you, including music! (Turn your volume on). *Update: Music has reverted to my regular Fall soundtrack, 9/28/2010* For all of you non Practical Magic Blog Party folks, head on over to NJ Through My Eyes where I've posted 2 new slide-shows today; one is a preview of a new project I'm working on!

A Walk Through The (Dis)Enchanted Forrest (Halloween Party Post)

Welcome & thank you for visiting my post! For more Halloween fun today & throughout the weekend, visit A Fanciful Twist . For more Halloween & Autumn Fun, check out my "Autumn Tuesday" & "Halloween Thursday" posts by clicking on their labels in the left hand column. ~Happy Halloween & Pumpkin Blessings! *Update for those friends wondering, I put this together prior to surgery yesterday to make sure I would be able to post it for today! (Though it didn't post at 12:01am like it was supposed to). Anyhoo, I'm home and resting (uncomfortably). Surgery went well, my kidney tube and stone are gone! I have an internal stent on the left hand side but I'm okay with that because it comes out in the doctor's office in 2-3 weeks (no back to the hospital) and especially because it meant they could take that nephrostomy tube out! (The last nearly 2 weeks of that 15 weeks was rough with that thing, my body was simultaneously trying to heal aroun...

2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party 2011 is Here! *Updated*

It's time for the 2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party created & hosted by the wonderful Anna of Frosted Petunias ! My sincerest apologies for getting this up rather late! The adventure that is post Hurricane Irene cleanup & repairs has been taking up too much time recently. (sigh) Things are a mess; I only started decorating for Autumn yesterday and I'm missing Halloween decorations! Luckily my broom is always safe and sound by the front door so at least I don't have to wonder where it is. (Not that it hasn't been known to scamper off now and again - naughty broom). I was afraid, quite honestly, that I wouldn't even get a post up sometime today! I kept hitting dead ends with every other one I tried. But, this morning I sat here at the computer and it flowed. Thankfully! I would have been so disappointed if I'd missed this, it was such fun last year! As some may remember from last years party, while I like the movie, (and love that house!), I love the...
