Happy St. Patty's Day!

Did you know? Irish actually ate cabbage and thick, cured bacon on this day. (They didn't have corned beef). Also, blue is the "National color" of Ireland. An interesting site in keeping with the day: Irish Cultures and Customs.

How I miss my Nana on days like this! She came to America, by herself, in 1919, at the age of 19, on a ship (which didn't go through Ellis Island as she had a "sponsor" here already). Forced to leave a life, the land and the people she loved as a replacement for her sister because her sister was sent back to Ireland because of a punctured ear drum. Nana always talked about going back to Ireland and taking me with her. We never made that trip and I truly hope that before I pass on someday, I will see Ireland in person for her.

I'm about to get the corned beef going on the stove for dinner, later with Hubby, myself and Mom. (Along with potato's, carrots and Irish Soda Bread). The parade in NY starts at noon so that will go on soon. It's sunny and warm(ish!) here today and things are maybe starting to dry out. (After 4 inches of rain on a saturated ground, who knows how long it will actually take).

I've always done the whole cabbage and corned beef thing but I'm not wild about it so this year I tried a recipe that has them + carrots in a creamy sauce with pasta. Totally not Irish, I know, but yum!

The Time Is Upon Us Once Again!

Welcome Friends! It's time once again for A Fanciful Twist Halloween Party ! Warmest thanks to the lovely Vanessa for hosting again this year. My apologies for not having this up sooner, I've been dreadfully under the weather and my helpers have been more of a hindrance! My lovely kitchen witch Helvetica has given up time off and has been cooking & baking away since last night but the skeletons have been eating everything in sight (damn their bottomless stomachs!) though they won't fess up and the invisible man has been raving on and on every time the door bell rings! 11:14pm (3/16/09) Watching a documentary Tennessee is so beautiful Head & nose all stuffy Out of ZyrtekD - sigh Want to read but distracted by my clogged head Hubby's snoring a little, restless a lot I worry about him He's so tired, works so much Doesn't get to do what he enjoys often enough (If at all) He willingly took my burdens & made them his own I'm still not used to being taken care of Makes me uncomfortable, guilty I took care of things for so many years Are 2 persons "stuff" too much for 1 person? Even a good, strong man? I know what it is to do more than my "fair share" Though the situation was completely different Is the end result the same?
