Ash Wednesday

Once again Lent is upon us and I've been thinking about doing things differently this season. Instead of giving up a specific activity or treat, I've decided to give up Not doing things that are good for me on a daily basis. For example, do I write, exercise, read, take supplements & eat yogurt? Yes. Do I do these things on a daily basis? Sometimes yes & sometimes (many times) no and that's what I'd like to change during this Lenten Season.

I know, you're thinking, "take supplements & eat yogurt?! Wth?" Well, for those of us with auto-immune diseases (mine being Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondilitis aka PA & AS), vitamins and the cultures in yogurt are extremely beneficial to our overall well beings, especially when taken on a daily basis. They help fight off infections, reduce pain levels and help maintain our emotional Spirits. This has been my experience at least.

Of course I won't limit myself to just these five things but it's a starting point from which to proceed. I'm also hoping it will help me to refocus on my goals for this Winter and 2010 in general. (I lost my initial excitement & gusto from the start of the new year a few weeks in).

If you celebrate Lent, I'd love to know what your plans are for this year.

We are giving up TV...can you believe it!?!?!?
See, I can believe it! When we're up at the campground, camping in general or up at the family cabin, I just don't give tv a thought. I try to be that way here at home but sometimes, especially with Hubby, it's hard! Best of luck with it! I know you guys can do it!

Sounds like a good start Jo! I went on a diet earlier this year and am down about 10 lbs so far. That's what I need to do for myself this year, as well as begin exercising! You have inspired me today!
Thanks Tammy! Being told I've inspired someone is just about the best compliment I think one can receive! Congrats on the 10lbs! Believe me, I know how hard it is to lose weight. I'm still trying.

I don't celebrate Lent, but I think it's so cool what you're doing this year. Yes, my husband also seems to do a bit better when he gets those cultures and takes his vitamins. What exercises can you do?
Thanks! I'm down to only being able to walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes at a clip ~ I was up to half an hour or so and doing exercises from my pt (physical therapy) days but I had a very nasty & painful back flareup recently so I can't do much more than walk for a bit.

Those flare ups are killer. I don't know if I told you, but I accidentally found out that Mucinex is a wonderful supplement for different rheumatoid disorders. It relaxes the smooth muscle fibers (that's how it helps expel mucus) so some of the hippy dippy rheumatologists are telling their patients to have a go at it. I was taking it for my chest infection over Christmas and haven't stopped since. It's starting to lose it's charm, as it does for most, but it got me through the season. I take 600 mg twice a day of the plain (no decongestants). It's expensive- $50 for a 50day supply, but I'll do it again for sure.

I think this is a great plan!
Lora, I had no idea about the Musinex! Very interesting. I already take it from time to time because of chronic sinusitis but I'll start daily and see what happens. (With all of the pills I take already, what's another one? lol) Thanks for mentioning!

(Though it didn't post at 12:01am like it was supposed to). Anyhoo, I'm home and resting (uncomfortably). Surgery went well, my kidney tube and stone are gone! I have an internal stent on the left hand side but I'm okay with that because it comes out in the doctor's office in 2-3 weeks (no back to the hospital) and especially because it meant they could take that nephrostomy tube out! (The last nearly 2 weeks of that 15 weeks was rough with that thing, my body was simultaneously trying to heal aroun...
