Relief

Thank God our journalists Laura Ling and Una Lee are home safe and sound from North Korea! Thank God! Watching their arrival in Burbank, their plane touching down, their reunions with family and Laura Ling's speech choked me up to no end. The fact that North Korea has seemingly been using these two women as political pawns and tools to punish the US and UN for our stances on their nuclear "activities" has terrified me from the get-go. I cannot imagine the sheer terror they have experienced for the last 140 days, nor can I imagine the sheer joy and relief when they were brought to a room for a "meeting" and saw President Clinton standing there waiting for them. The possibilities are overwhelming and I literally, for once, cannot imagine. Thank God they are home. Thank God the North Koreans followed through on their word that if President Clinton went there, they would let them leave with him. Thank God President Clinton went. (He looked anything but comfortable and happy in the pictures taken during his time there and no one seems to know how he felt about going). (Tearing up again as I type this). I had been very angry that VP Al Gore didn't seem to be doing enough to bring them home, they are working for him and his Current network, but they said today that the North Koreans didn't want him to go there, they wanted President Clinton and so Al was the one to call Bill and ask him to go. I also thank God he made that call.

I have mixed feelings about this whole thing. I'm glad the ladies are home safely. I can't imagine what life has been like for them and North Korea certainly has been using them for political purposes. But these ladies went illegally into North Korea and knew the dangers. If my kid did something he knew was dangerous and he got in trouble, should I expect that he should be bailed out just because I don't want him to suffer? Actions have consequences even if we don't always like them. I do applaud these ladies courage for working to expose the trafficking of humans as I do all journalists that put themselves in danger to make the world a better place.
Well, there's no proof they actually went across the border. They admitted to doing it because that's what the North Korean government wanted them to do and they were told it would help them in their sentencing, which apparently wasn't the case. The North Korean government wanted an apology which President Clinton and the journalists gave, as a condition for release. North Korean guards entered into South Korea and "seized them" per accounts. They maintain that the waters there were in were South Korea's territory and South Korea has confirmed this as well as their guides. They came close to the North Korean border a number of times along their journey.

I'm not sure what to believe, but given North Korea's actions as of late, I'm inclined to give Laura and Una the benefit of the doubt.

I'm glad Laura Ling and Euna Lee are back home with their families. I do wish it were as easy to free all other political prisoners around the world.

An Enchanted Garden Party

Welcome to my post! To visit other participants, please head over to the Practical Magic Blog Party 2010 blog. I must say that while I think Practical Magic the movie is adorable, I think the novel is incredible. And that is where I gleaned my inspiration from for these festivities. Gardens are mysterious, magical and enchanting, don't you think? Now follow me out into the garden, I have everything all ready for you, including music! (Turn your volume on). *Update: Music has reverted to my regular Fall soundtrack, 9/28/2010* For all of you non Practical Magic Blog Party folks, head on over to NJ Through My Eyes where I've posted 2 new slide-shows today; one is a preview of a new project I'm working on!

A Walk Through The (Dis)Enchanted Forrest (Halloween Party Post)

Welcome & thank you for visiting my post! For more Halloween fun today & throughout the weekend, visit A Fanciful Twist . For more Halloween & Autumn Fun, check out my "Autumn Tuesday" & "Halloween Thursday" posts by clicking on their labels in the left hand column. ~Happy Halloween & Pumpkin Blessings! *Update for those friends wondering, I put this together prior to surgery yesterday to make sure I would be able to post it for today! (Though it didn't post at 12:01am like it was supposed to). Anyhoo, I'm home and resting (uncomfortably). Surgery went well, my kidney tube and stone are gone! I have an internal stent on the left hand side but I'm okay with that because it comes out in the doctor's office in 2-3 weeks (no back to the hospital) and especially because it meant they could take that nephrostomy tube out! (The last nearly 2 weeks of that 15 weeks was rough with that thing, my body was simultaneously trying to heal aroun...

2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party 2011 is Here! *Updated*

It's time for the 2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party created & hosted by the wonderful Anna of Frosted Petunias ! My sincerest apologies for getting this up rather late! The adventure that is post Hurricane Irene cleanup & repairs has been taking up too much time recently. (sigh) Things are a mess; I only started decorating for Autumn yesterday and I'm missing Halloween decorations! Luckily my broom is always safe and sound by the front door so at least I don't have to wonder where it is. (Not that it hasn't been known to scamper off now and again - naughty broom). I was afraid, quite honestly, that I wouldn't even get a post up sometime today! I kept hitting dead ends with every other one I tried. But, this morning I sat here at the computer and it flowed. Thankfully! I would have been so disappointed if I'd missed this, it was such fun last year! As some may remember from last years party, while I like the movie, (and love that house!), I love the...
