The Unofficial End of Summer Is Here

This evening is the last beach concert of the Summer. It's flown by more quickly with quite a few were cancelled because of storms.

I know Summer seemed short this year and figuratively, because of the weather, it was. And while I like Summer because of my gardening (especially towards the end because aside from watering there isn't much to do and I can enjoy the blooms) but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Autumn and I'm already getting excited!!!

I've got to get some fall flowers planted. I had to zap the gardens that had all the fall stuff because I couldn't get this creeping vine to stop taking everything over.

Why are so many bloggers aying goodbye to summer?!?! We still have almost a month left, thank you very much!
Lisa, I was so sad when I left the nursery today empty-handed! While I'm not for Mums yet (we still have a chance of good heat which will kill Fall Mums), I did want the Brown Eyed Susans, some pink-ish Cone Flowers, some Blanket Flowers and a new Sedum... Sigh...

You are very correct M.J.! Seems to me when you live on the coast like we do, in a 'tourist-y' area, you mark periods of time with 'unofficial start of summer' and 'unofficial end of summer' because so many of us dread tourist season and are so happy when it ends, LOL! (And I love Fall so I've no problem saying "Goodbye" to Summer asap, accept for the weekly beach concerts!)

Living in Arizona now, I am always more homesick in the Spring and Fall....End of summer?? We are having another heat wave here and it topped about 117 today! Geez, that doesn't lead to getting excited about pumpkins, mums and all the other fall 'funs'!

I enjoy autumn as well, but really given our cool weather this summer, I feel like we've been cheated out of summer a little bit. Today it's cloudy skies, sweatshirts, and jeans. Good weather for baking, but it feels like since it's August we should be able to soak up the last bit of summer.
I know what you mean Cindy. The last 2 years I've been sweating while putting up Fall/Halloween and Christmas decorations. Just not natural and didn't put me in the mood at all.

Syndey, I only feel a little cheated because some of my garden didn't grow or grow well because of the unseasonably cool & wet Spring into Summer, but I hate heat and humidity so otherwise I've been happy.

2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party 2011 is Here! *Updated*

It's time for the 2nd Annual Practical Magic Blog Party created & hosted by the wonderful Anna of Frosted Petunias ! My sincerest apologies for getting this up rather late! The adventure that is post Hurricane Irene cleanup & repairs has been taking up too much time recently. (sigh) Things are a mess; I only started decorating for Autumn yesterday and I'm missing Halloween decorations! Luckily my broom is always safe and sound by the front door so at least I don't have to wonder where it is. (Not that it hasn't been known to scamper off now and again - naughty broom). I was afraid, quite honestly, that I wouldn't even get a post up sometime today! I kept hitting dead ends with every other one I tried. But, this morning I sat here at the computer and it flowed. Thankfully! I would have been so disappointed if I'd missed this, it was such fun last year! As some may remember from last years party, while I like the movie, (and love that house!), I love the...

The Time Is Upon Us Once Again!

Welcome Friends! It's time once again for A Fanciful Twist Halloween Party ! Warmest thanks to the lovely Vanessa for hosting again this year. My apologies for not having this up sooner, I've been dreadfully under the weather and my helpers have been more of a hindrance! My lovely kitchen witch Helvetica has given up time off and has been cooking & baking away since last night but the skeletons have been eating everything in sight (damn their bottomless stomachs!) though they won't fess up and the invisible man has been raving on and on every time the door bell rings! I do hope you'll enjoy your visit to Pumpkin Manor and have a Happy Halloween ! I look forward to your return. (Slideshow below - if it plays too fast, hover your cursor on it until the <- -> appear & click on them to view what you've missed). 11:14pm (3/16/09) Watching a documentary Tennessee is so beautiful Head & nose all stuffy Out of ZyrtekD - sigh Want to read but distracted by my clogged head Hubby's snoring a little, restless a lot I worry about him He's so tired, works so much Doesn't get to do what he enjoys often enough (If at all) He willingly took my burdens & made them his own I'm still not used to being taken care of Makes me uncomfortable, guilty I took care of things for so many years Are 2 persons "stuff" too much for 1 person? Even a good, strong man? I know what it is to do more than my "fair share" Though the situation was completely different Is the end result the same?
