Deja Vu Part 2

Taken Friday, 2/26. (See previous post for Deja Vu the first taken Thursday, 2/25).

What's In Your Morning Cuppa?

This is something I've been doing on Twitter as a way of sharing my favorite mugs and decided to start doing it here from time to time as well. Hope you enjoy! Oh, and usually my first Morning Cuppa is always some kind of tea. Coffee first thing triggers a migrane! This is a fave mug, bought a couple of years or so ago at Pier One. (They have great mugs that don't cost a fortune). It reminds me of Spring and Summer. It has a crack in the lip so I'm babying it! (If you're interested in my Twitter "handle," drop me an email at the address in the left hand column in the "About Me" section). Posted via My Palm Centro

Convenience

I do believe this is a Jersey thing, especially in these parts. I was always a 7/11 gal myself but Mom has always been all about the Welsh Farms. They do have Yummy vanilla bean ice cream, I'll give them that!

Ash Wednesday

Once again Lent is upon us and I've been thinking about doing things differently this season. Instead of giving up a specific activity or treat, I've decided to give up Not doing things that are good for me on a daily basis. For example, do I write, exercise, read, take supplements & eat yogurt? Yes. Do I do these things on a daily basis? Sometimes yes & sometimes (many times) no and that's what I'd like to change during this Lenten Season. I know, you're thinking, "take supplements & eat yogurt?! Wth?" Well, for those of us with auto-immune diseases (mine being Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondilitis aka PA & AS), vitamins and the cultures in yogurt are extremely beneficial to our overall well beings, especially when taken on a daily basis. They help fight off infections, reduce pain levels and help maintain our emotional Spirits. This has been my experience at least. Of course I won't limit myself to just these five t...

Snow & sleet are falling again. A comforting, safe feeling. Muffled, quiet but for the plane flying very low overhead. Surprised to hear any planes at all, there hasn't been many flying over us of late. Sad evening. Two old beloved pups put to much needed rest. Hubby & Nephew, heart broken.

Wishing Everyone...

A Happy Valentine's Day! And remember to celebrate love in all its' forms every day. It doesn't have to be February 14th on the calendar for it to be a special day.

Snow-mageddon The 2nd, Jersey Style

We survived this latest round from Old Man Winter (which was worse than the last) and are already looking towards the next round slated for Monday into Tuesday (groan). I love snow more than most people you know But when most of what falls out of 16"s is Ice, loving it I'm not so much. During the 30 or so hours it precipitated, I lost track of how many times it switched to sleet with a few heavy down pours of rain for good measure. What a Mess! Icicles started hanging off tree branches & power lines by early afternoon yesterday. Very thankfully we didn't lose power! (Others in the immediate area did). We did brownout several times starting around dinner time. What looked like snow this morning was ice in more places than not, like our entire back yard! We're exhausted from headcold's and snow removal. But in all honesty, it could have been worse & we're doing alright all considered. We're born & raised NJeans - this is th...

Saying Goodbye

Captain Phil Harris of the Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch passed away yesterday. We are so very sorry for the Harris Family's and Cornelia Marie's loss. Our love & prayers go out to all of you, especially Jake & Josh. We love you Captain Phil and we'll miss you. A Question For All

I'm curious... Generally speaking, given the books released in let's say the last 5 years through the present & reactions to those books, do you feel that messages and experiences are taken more seriously (or given more credit) when released as nonfiction/memoir as opposed to being released as fiction? Which style of writing holds more weight for you when it comes to taking the overall theme of the book (if there is one) to heart? Are you more likely to relate to the book when it's nonfic/memoir or fiction? Regardless of your preferred genre, if Eat Pray Love had been written as fiction book, would its' impact be as far reaching as it has been being a memoir? And what if The Help has been written as a non-fiction/memoir book?

A Bit Of Good News On A Monday

I may be able to go back on home iv treatments! Happy Dance! I'll know soon. Please don't misunderstand, having the treatment at the doctor's office wasn't a horrible experience by any means at all (my doctor and the nurses are wonderful people!), it's a convenience factor; I can't drive after an infusion and therefore someone has to drive me to & from the office whereas here at home, I don't have to worry about inconveniencing anyone (any more than I feel I do normally). When one lives with disease, it's not just an inconvenience & burden on that person, it can be to those around us (even though they love us and say it isn't). Anything I can do 'on my own' and don't need someone else to help me with makes me feel better about being me. Oh and in weather news, we're going to get hammered by a "Nor'Easter Blizzard" Tuesday night through Wednesday. "So far" are in the 12"-18"s area of the m...

The Neighborhood

Our street, on the "dry" side of a tiny coastal NJ town. Dry meaning we live on the inland side of the highway, not the "wet" side of the highway on the water. But, the town was originally started as a "dry" community - no booze allowed! (Looking to the left) (Looking to the left) (Looking to the right)

Snowy Saturday

We awoke to this. Snow warms my heart! This blizzard didn't give us as much as the one before Christmas, only about half. On the outside looking in. And then the day ended with a sudden & glorious sunset! (These are slightly out of order! This and the next photo should appear at the end). (Dern blogger, lol!) I gasped when I looked out of the living room window and saw this sky! (So unexpected!) I ran out onto the porch without putting my jacket back on to take these! And while I was in sweat pants & my faux uggs, I was also in a short sleeved t-shirt so I was fairly red & numb when I finally went back inside but this sunset was so beautiful, it was worth it! (These are the actual colors of that sunset, I didn't change the photo's at all except to crop a few). I hope everyone is safe and enjoying their weekend no matter what your weather has been like since yesterday! (Be careful tomorrow too!) A favorite breakfast/lunch spot.

Birds of a Feather

Each morning, these two Turkey Vultures arrive on our chimney to warm themselves. Neat yet creepy to watch. Very creepy when it appears as though one of them is staring back at you as you take their picture. Lovers spat. The victor! (The other is just out of sight behind the chimney). Yes, Turkey Vultures. We have quite an enormous lot of them here as there seems to be a roost nearby. About a hundred of them at least. Watching them soar around & around on updrafts of air is mesmerizing and hearing their wings flap as they take off is incredible. (They have Huge wing spans). But they sure are creepy as anything I've ever seen, especially when both wings are fully outstretched as one is perched, warming itself on a chimney or in the sun. I was able to get a few shots of what I presume is the same pair up there on this snowy morning as well. (Coming soon!)

On The Navesink

Happy Ground Hog's Day!

Good ole Puxetawny Phil has forecasted 6 more weeks of Winter which is fitting since we have 2 chances for snow this week! Due to "temporary" insurance changes, I have to now have my iv treatments in the doctor's office instead of at home. (Even though my doctor wants me to have them at home to limit my exposure to other people (and therefore germs & infections) and I don't drive much at all anymore (because of my blurry vision & can't drive home from an iv treatment anyway) - Don't get me started! All I can say is after last week's experience with Medicare, I can say with complete confidence that I do not want an overall Government run health care system! I am all for reform, but let them fix (and expand) Medicare and Medicaid first and do that successfully and then we'll see). Yesterday's first iv treatment at the doctor's office went alright. It was amazing to me that it took 3 people (2 nurses and my doctor) to get me all hooke...
