A Fresh Start In Blogger Land

Welcome to my new blog home! I lost my blogging mojo with my original blog longer ago than I care to admit. I tried changing the designs, even the blog's name, several times over the years, and nothing brought me back to the joy I originally found with blogging. (And joy it did bring me; I loved writing for my old blog at one time). But, I also didn't want to let the old blog go. (How ironic! One of the best feelings is letting go of things that no longer serve me or bring me joy and here I've been holding onto that old blog for far too long now). For some reason this morning, it hit me out of the blue while I was in the shower (like so many things do):  Start a fresh new blog with the name of The Eclectic Spoonie (a hashtag I use in my Instagram posts), and keep the one thing I currently love about the old blog (the design). And here we are! I want to thank you in advance for your patience as I continue setting up The Eclectic Spoonie, and work on linking to the old blog a...

What's In A Name?

The name of my blog abode here has changed over the years, as so many of you know.  It started out as Just Diggin' Around, and then became Diggin' Around. Not that long ago, after much contemplation, I made a big change with renaming it The Portable Homestead. And that was the right thing for me at the time.  In recent weeks however, I've been rethinking the name again.  The Portable Homestead is where we live, where Hubbs is caretaker, and where I garden (mostly in containers), so that will continue to be a part of my blog, but (to me) it narrows the focus, or direction of you will, and I want my blog to have a name that's more encompassing of my life as a whole, vs just a specific area of it. Not that I have let the name (TPH) change what I write about, I still share as I always have, but a different name would help me to feel more comfortable about sharing in the same way - if that makes sense.  Earlier this month, I was writing a letter...

Happy 8th Blogging Anniversary To Me!

I never know how to mark this anniversary and it seems to sneak up on me more quickly with each passing year. This blog is still a joy for me, as are you my dear friends! Here's to many more years!

An Early Morning Walk in the Garden & Blogging Reflections

Every morning before Hubbs leaves for work, he comes back into our room to give me a kiss. (Every body altogether now, "Awww!")  Usually I go back to sleep after he leaves (since it's around 6am) and get up about 7:45am. But after a fitful & uncomfy nights sleep last night, I was wide awake. Oh, I tried to go back to sleep, but decided to get up instead of laying there frustrated that I couldn't sleep. Then I remembered the pink Morning Glories blooming on the arbor around the tall gate in the yard that I shared with you here .  (We have two yard gates, one tall, the other short).  I dressed quickly (quickly for me that is!) grabbed my camera's and went into our spare room to peak through the blinds at the top of the arbor. Sure enough I spied two small clusters of pink! So out into the beautiful, foggy, albeit it more than sticky, morning I went. Thankfully the rising sun was having a hard time burning through the dense fog, keeping the heat at bay, allow...

Some Thoughts

Thursday, July 31, 2008 9:03:04 AM Started Yesterday, 7/30/08 My mind is so full lately! (Writing wise and other wise!) Last Wednesday, I wrote about how a NY Times article led me to wonder what I’m trying to capture in all the photo’s I take of my flower’s and veggies! The article was about journalist/author/critic Janet Malcolm, who’s book “Burdock” comes out tomorrow, which is a new venture for her. The book is comprised of 28 photo’s of 28 different Burdock tree leaves and a 2 page essay introduction. Her editor, Ilene Smith, says they (the leaves) are Janet’s “ultimate biographical subject” and “are also at some level deeply autobiographical.” (Link to article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/20/arts/design/20shat.html?scp=2&sq=Janet%20Malcolm&st=cse ) Later the same day, I also wrote about how I worry about my potted treasures (flowers & veggies) when I know there are nasty storms coming! (Silly, I know!) I recalled how I’ve been known to wildly run outside in the mid...
