This Perfectly Imperfect Life

To those celebrating today, and a Happy Chanukah as well!  Many blessings to appreciate today and you all are included!  I started baking on Tuesday because we were getting a nor'easter through last evening and with an electric stove/oven, I wanted to be sure I had pumpkin pie for today. (Priorities!) Thankfully all went well and the storm passed without incident. Botched up the top crust for my apple cranberry pie yesterday so I made a messy lattice top instead. T'ain't pretty and that's okay - from what I sampled it's delicious! This morning I awoke later than I expected (been so tired lately, fatigue crash - bah!) and despite seasoning the turkey yesterday, in trying to get it in the oven this morning I managed I miss the beginning of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and therefore missed my *favorite* part of the parade: Tom Turkey! I had to share these with you! (And I couldn't pick just one or two). What an incredible experience. Standing creek side, closer to a Red Tailed Hawk than I've ever been. For a total of 20 minutes. (10 minutes at a time with a break in between). I dare say the resident Turkey Vulture was jealous of all the attention Red (the Hawk) was getting; he moved to a chimney closer to where Red was perched in the tree. When I came in to get warm before going back out to see if Red was still there, I got the pics of the Cardinal while standing in our kitchen. Blessing come in many forms, shapes and disguises.

Sometimes getting out of the house is better than staying in when you're not feeling up to par, so I decided to tag along with Hubby to one of the fishing beaches within minutes of home. It was already hot & sticky when we left but down here the on-shore breeze feels glorious! There have to be well over 100 people here fishing! (Gorgeous view, isn't it? That's a ship docked at the Naval Weapons Station to the left on the horizon & Hubby fishing). A boy about 12 years old stood fairly close to Hubby and began watching & trying to copy Hubby casting so he could cast better. (Looks like the boy is just starting out). Hubby noticed and started talking with the boy. When Hubby caught a Blue Fish, he taught the boy how to reel it in by letting the boy reel it in on Hubby's pole (which they threw back). When one of them got another Blue Fish (I didn't see which one snagged it) Hubby helped the boy reel it in & taught him how to take the hook out ...

The pumpkin pie is baked. (Semi-home made. I use Libby's Easy Bake Pumpkin - DELICIOUS!) The mince pie is baking now. The sweet potato caserole and turnips are next as the oven will be taken over by a turkey breast and a ham in the morning! Cranberry, fresh green apple & 'Christmas Eve' candles are adding their scents to the aroma of baking pies. What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
