This Perfectly Imperfect Life

How is it June already?!  While scratching my head trying to figure that out, let's recap the end of May: Memorial Day weekend was a big one for us in the milestones department. (With gorgeous weather to boot!) May 24th was our decade anniversary and May 25th was our 9th wedding anniversary! Did we do anything "special" for the weekend? No and yes. We gave one other gifts, but we didn't go away for the weekend or even go out to dinner either night. Hubbs was tired from work, so aside from running out for a bit, we stayed home, relaxing on the couch, me reading and him watching war movies on TCM. Sunday we had breakfast down at the marina and walked the harbor afterwards. Then he picked up my anniversary gift (a new tv and stand) while I cleaned out the old entertainment center. We spent the rest of the day doing things around the house, making dinner together and reading on the couch. It was a wonderful weekend together, filled with love....

This morning we headed out as the rain ended and before t-storms arrived to help with the annual tradition of placing Flags on Veterans graves at one of the local cemeteries in our area.  This is usually done two weeks before Memorial Day weekend. In the event we are rained out, we still have an extra weekend to place the Flags in time for the holiday. This is Hubbs showing the Scouts what markings to look for, how to place the Flag and stop for a moment after each one: There are nearly 3,000 Veterans graves in this particular cemetery that we do, although not every grave is marked noting a Veteran is buried there and some headstones are so old, dating back to the French & Indian war (pre-Revolutionary), that you can no longer read the engraving on them. We try to do our best to see that no Veteran is forgotten. Unfortunately, it can happen by accident, even when we have a great turnout of volunteers like this year, so we leave extra Flags at the cemet...

Our American Legion Post had a Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance ceremony this afternoon and since Vic is Sgt. At Arms, he had to wear his "uniform." He looks great all gussied up (in my humble, unbiased opinion)! Funny this pic makes him look shorter than the 6'3" he actually is! He really needs a longer tie. (As do most of the other AL members!)

This evening, Hubby was officially sworn in as the Sargent At Arms of his American Legion Post by the County Officers, along with the other Officers. The Ladies Auxillary Officers were sworn in as well. A nice, though slightly disorganized, ceremony. Dinner followed. Hubby and I got all dressed up! No pics of me, sorry! Maybe in another 20 less pounds!
