And what is up with the magazines in doctor's offices?!

could they be any more sterotypical?! sports illustrated, pc world, people, glamor and vogue?! are you kidding me?! i came to this realization this past tuesday in the waiting room of my new shrink. (new because my old one up & moved to arizona w/no notice and because my problems do not all revolve around my childhood & mom! so much for the psychoanalysis route!) i'd forgotten my book. not even a better homes & gardens in the bunch! which, now that i think about it, is also quite stereotypical, but, at least i could read about gardening! and then i thought about it... my pcp's office is full of sports mag's, buisness weekly, webmd mag & national geographic explorer. my otho's office is filled w/pc world, nj mag, home decor mag's, sports mag's, food mag's, some glamor & people, though few. (a bit more varried in seclection!) my rheumatoidologist's office is full of arthritis today (appropriately so), cabin living type decor m...

The Great Gatsby... Not as great as I remember!

junior year. mrs. todd's english class. 1 of 2 books i can remember reading that year, though i know there were more. had to be! (the other i do remember is the scarlett letter, which i detested! so boring! never was a big hawthorne fan). back to gatsby... i remember loving this book! liking it more than the robert redford movie version we watched after finishing it! and now that i am re-reading it again (for a fiction writing class), i'm having a bit of trouble with it so far. i think i'm 3 chapters in. maybe i didn't like it until mid way through to the end?! the language is awkward, the sentences seem to run on. (there again, i've never been much of a fitzgerald fan either, nor hemingway, though i have sincerely tried w/both!) i still love ye gods & goddesses from freshman year english. mr... mcginty! (i detested him personally though he was a good teacher). and beowolf and hamlet from senior year english! mrs... i definately do not rememb...

Remember when study breaks used to mean...

talking on the phone, writing a note to one of your girlfriends, reading a trashy romance novel (or sweet valley high!), watching tv, reading a magazine, listening to music, going to sleep or muchin' on junk food?! now it means that i have to pee. again. for the upteenth time already! or i have to take my medication! or one of the cats is causing a ruckus! or the phone is ringing and, per the caller id, it's one of my in-laws or my mom! or the door bell rings & instead of it being a delivery, it's one of the tenants here who proceeds to go into one of their current "problems" and not being able to get a word in edge wise, i'm unable to interrupt (without slamming the door shut, which i have actually been told to do to one of them!) and am forced to listen & at the end repeat that my husband is not home and they have to either wait for him to get home from work, call & leave a message on the office phone or leave a letter in the mail box becau...

Some things just don't make sense to me...

'turning your resentful, angry or emotionally abusive relationship into a compassionate & loving one'?! (a subtitle to some fluffy self help book i noticed in the catalog from my book club). why is it when you live in an apartment complex (mine is a "garden apartment" complex) people leave everything a mess? (the laundry room, the parking lot, around the dumpsters, the sidewalks, the grass around their porches). they make your business theirs. they "borrow" things from you without asking. they throw their cigarette butts (and other trash) off their decks down onto your patio. they make enough noise to wake the dead as if they live unto themselves. they park in spots clearly not marked for them. but they're the 1st to complain when it happens to them?! why is it when you really are sick (i've got an autoimmune disease and orthopedic injuries) and you absolutely cannot work and you've got more than one doctor who says you are disabled ...
