On A Cold Winter's Eve

Bitter cold, quiet, dark, beautiful, dangerous. Winter.

Feeling even more appreciative of our warm home as an frigid air mass has settled over the region dropping our temps into the single digits (or just above) and wind chills well below zero. Our coldest temps since 2005 says the weatherman.

I don't mind honestly. (And I know few feel as I do!) I'm enjoying being present in this Winter season and don't have the desire to look ahead for Spring. I'm happy where I am.

While Hubby was out with one of the nephews, I spent a cozy day at home. I looked at one thing that needed to be done & did it instead of looking at All that needs to be done and getting overwhelmed so I purged and re-organized the kitchen cabinets this morning along with texting with two of my girlfriends.

I accepted my limitations and went to rest on the couch early this afternoon. I had hoped to do a little reading (the novel is pictured above) but I didn't get very far before falling asleep for a couple of hours. That enabled me to cook us a fabulous dinner of baked sweet & spicy bbq chicken legs (veggie & side) and corn bread for dinner. (After which I was exhausted again but it was well worth it!)

I read Lynne Griffin's first novel, Life Without Summer, in 2009 (you can find my Goodreads review here) and have looked forward to more from her since. I spotted Sea Escape a novel at the library on Friday and had to take it out so my re-read of The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd for our evening bookclub this coming Thursday is on hold for a few days!

That sounds like a great day, even though you wound up exhausted. Can't remember if I told you this, but I have RA and well know of the limitations you talk about! I tend to get mad at my RA on a daily basis, lol. Take care of yourself==you inspired me to cook today!

sounds like a great day.

I am looking forward to Spring, but I so enjoy the winter. I like the cold. I love the snow, but now that I have to commute I have become a snow grinch.

I like that I have gardening catalogues on my desk to remind that the spring is coming. The best part of winter is feeling snuggly!

I don't remember if you told me either Tammy lol (my memory is terrible these days!) but I'm glad to know and glad I inspired you! (That's about the best compliment I can think of!)

I like the snuggly part too Brenda! I have gardening catalogs beside the bed but I haven't had the urge yet to go through them.

Sounds like a nice weekend. Me, too, despite the cold (I didn't go out much!)

I managed to cook a nice Sunday dinner tonight, too, and am tired now...but now I have left-overs all set for tomorrow's dinner.

Good for you getting something done - what a great attitude to focus on one thing!

Mmm--that's my kind of day! I agree with you--I'm very much just living in the moment and appreciating the winter season for what it is. I know many are looking ahead to spring and summer, but I'm happy living day-to-day.

Sounds like a perfect day to me! except for the not being able to read much part! but even accomplishing one major thing that needed to be done is wonderful!!! sometimes i feel like i accomplish 7 different things but nothing was really done right and there are 50 more things to do! AND dinner sounded SUPER yummy! i love corn bread!!!

If only I didn't have to go to work five days a week, I wouldn't mind winter at all. I think you're a lot like me in that we're perfectly content in our own homes. I have lots I enjoy doing here, I have the people I love with me--life is good in my house!

A Walk Through The (Dis)Enchanted Forrest (Halloween Party Post)

(Though it didn't post at 12:01am like it was supposed to). Anyhoo, I'm home and resting (uncomfortably). Surgery went well, my kidney tube and stone are gone! I have an internal stent on the left hand side but I'm okay with that because it comes out in the doctor's office in 2-3 weeks (no back to the hospital) and especially because it meant they could take that nephrostomy tube out!
